[edit] History

[edit] Before Tekken - Tekken 5

Wang was a companion of Jinpachi Mishima, Heihachi Mishima's father. Wang watched Heihachi and Kazuya Mishima with great interest as they grew and chose their respective paths of life. Wang remained generous and kind whilst living as a recluse in the Mishima gardens. Wang also tutored Ling Xiaoyu, his granddaughter, in the martial arts at a young age. Furthermore, Wang Jinrei took Marshall Law on in the first The King of Iron Fist Tournament, and Wang won. However, Wang loses to Jun Kazama in the second tournament.

Now, Wang tends to the huge number of vegetables in the gardens, finding time to hone his martial arts skill. Every morning at the crack of dawn, he can be seen strolling down the mountains gazing at the clouds. His lithe athletiscism, despite his age, has meant that his inner chi strength is channelled with great purity of spirit, despite his frail bones. His reason for entering the second tournament is to carry out the final wishes of the long-dead Jinpachi. During his life, Jinpachi watched with grief as Heihachi and Kazuya followed the path of evil. He instructed his faithful friend to eliminate both of them when the time was right. Wang theorises that the best way to fulfill this plea is to face all challengers giving way to those adept enough to defeat Kazuya and dispatches those unworthy of his attention. Heihachi will stare into the face of destiny at another time. Wang enters the fifth tournament to find out the authenticity of a letter he received, noting that Jinpachi had come back.

[edit] Wang's Endings

Tekken 2 (???)

Wang walks up a hill to a grave stone. He pours a little bit of a drink from a bottle onto the grave stone. Then, he pours some of the beverage into a small cup. Wang drinks from the cup, and then he exhales.

Tekken Tag Tournament (Non-Canon)

Wang and Ling Xiaoyu put their hands together simultaneously. Then, they move their arms towards the right. They move their arms around a little bit more. Suddenly, Wang has a back problem, and he falls to the ground. Xiaoyu notices him and runs over to him. Wang motions to his back with one of his hands. Ling Xiaoyu puts her hands on her hips and smiles while facing the screen.

Tekken 5 / Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection (???)

Wang defeats Jinpachi Mishima in his demonic form, and Jinpachi's demonic form vanishes. Wang shakes Jinpachi in his human form and asks if he is okay. Jinpachi apologizes for causing Wang so much trouble. Wang tells him to not say such things, and Wang adds that they've been through so much and have always been like brothers. Jinpachi lifts one of his hands up towards the sky. Wang grabs that hand. Jinpachi says that he wishes that they could have had one last drink together, but he's afraid that his time has come. Jinpachi says good bye to Wang. Then, Jinpachi dissolves into dust. Wang is shocked, and he runs one of his hands through the sand that used to be Jinpachi. Wang says that "It's the curse of the Mishima bloodline!...". Then, Wang gets up off of the ground and tells Jinpachi that his time has yet to come.

[edit] Trivia

  • Wang shares moves with Michelle Chang and Julia Chang, although a connection between them has never been made.
  • Lei Wulong is said to know many great Chinese martial arts Masters personally. This is evidenced during Lei's Story mode in Tekken 5 when he refers to Wang, his Stage Four sub-boss, as "Master Wang".
  • Tekken 5 was the first game that Wang Jinrei had a voice acting dialogue role and is one of the two characters, alongside Feng Wei, to speak Mandarin.
  • Wang might have been attacked by Ogre because Ogre shares some of Wang's moves. However, since he appears in Tekken 5, if Ogre did attack him, he apparrently survived the attack.
  • Wang's style is the formidable Xing Yi Quan or Hsing-I Chuan. It is one of the three internal martial arts along with Baguazhang and Tai Chi Chuan.
  • Wang is somewhat of a "dirty old man" cliché. Evidence for this is shown when Wang fights a female character in Tekken 5 (excluding Ling Xiaoyu), because Wang may say "Today must be my lucky day!" or "Wow! You're hot!" before the battle.
  • In Tekken 5, Wang has more interludes than any other character. He has an interlude with Ling Xiaoyu, Feng Wei, Heihachi Mishima, and Jinpachi Mishima.
  • Wang's second-player costume in Tekken 5 seems to be an homage to Master Roshi from the Dragonball anime series. In fact, one can customize Wang with Master Roshi's green sunglasses and cane.
