Walter Centeno Corea (born October 6, 1974 in San José, Costa Rica) is a Costa Rican midfielder, who currently plays for Deportivo Saprissa.
Before joining Saprissa, Centeno played for Belen and Goicoechea, also of Costa Rica, and AEK Athens FC of Greece. He was named the best player of the 2003-04 Costa Rican season by the Costa Rican sports media, after scoring 9 goals while orchestrating Saprissa's offense, helping the team to win the league.
Centeno played his first game for the Costa Rican national team September 27, 1995 against Jamaica. He has been a fixture for the team for the last ten years, playing in the 1994 Pan American Games, the 1997 and (Catalan)s, and the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and approaches the century mark as at May 18, 2006 he has 91 caps and 15 goals.
With Saprissa, he has won five national championships and two CONCACAF Champions Cup, and was part of the team that played the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship Toyota Cup, where Saprissa finished third behind São Paulo Futebol Clube and Liverpool F.C.. His appearance at this tournament was considered as outstanding by FIFA experts.
