Walsh, Ontario

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Walsh is a medium-sized hamlet in Norfolk County that is home to a public school and a Roman Catholic elementary school called St. Michael's. The Donnybrook Fair was once a major attraction here and a wholesaler was once stationed here. To the south lies Walsh Station, the home to Walsh's defunct railroad station. In that vicinity, there is a diner called the Turkey Point Diner for the locals and a gas station formerly owned by Mr. Paul Cherwaty (now owned by Mr. Russ Freeman).

From this peaceful hamlet, Turkey Point is to the south, Simcoe is to the northeast, Delhi is to the northwest, and Valley Heights Secondary School, where most Walsh Public, and St. Michael's students go after graduating the eighth grade, is to the southwest.

Walsh was named after the Walsh family, descended from Thomas Welch, who were prominent early settlers in the area. However, present day Walsh is predominated by families with the surname Boughner include the late Mr. Jim Boughner who ran a pig farm that relied on the services of the former Norfolk Co-Operative.
