[edit] Song information

Following in the vein of her previous down-with-love singles "Since U Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes," "Walk Away" finds Kelly reprimanding her boyfriend for letting her down in various ways and not devoting himself to the relationship. She demands that if he can't give her what she needs, that he should "just walk away".

Initially, "Addicted" had been planned for release as a fifth single, but was cancelled when RCA deemed its dark tone and message too similar to that of her previous two singles, "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and "Because of You". "Gone" was then picked as the replacement, only to be dropped due to similarities to "Since U Been Gone." Finally, after two months of U.S. pop airplay, "Walk Away" was released as the fifth single from Breakaway in 2006. By that point, however, "Gone" had already amassed considerable airplay on popular radio stations in major markets such as Atlanta, Boston, and New York City. Some speculate that this may have negatively affected "Walk Away"'s performance in the US. "Walk Away" fell out of the Billboard Top 50 on August 10, 2006.

"Walk Away" also has made a tremendous impact in Thailand. Thai pop band Endorphine adopted it into their song, "Sak-Ka-Waa Bpaak Waan".

[edit] Music video

The music video for "Walk Away" was shot February 4-5th in Los Angeles with the treatment written by Clarkson herself. It was intended to be released on February 25th, at the TRL Awards, but was taken out because director Joseph Kahn said it needed some "touching up". The video premiered on TRL and MuchOnDemand on March 7, 2006, and on British music channels on March 6. The music video is simple. An alarm clock wakes up several different people. Kelly is on the radio station singing Walk Away live. Various people, including a man in the shower, a woman working at an office, twin brothers, a football player, and a man vacuuming his house, are all singing along. One man, played by Kelly's brother Jason, is discovered singing the song in a public restroom. As soon as he is found, he runs out in embarrassment. In his place, the man who found him begins singing along. Yet another man sings along in his car, becoming so involved in his performance that he eventually gets out of his car to dance, holding up traffic. Scenes of Kelly performing the song with a band are interspersed among these various scenes.

A song can only be on TRL 50 days. The song's last day on TRL was June 1,2006 where it was #1. Out of the fifty days it was on TRL it was at #1 19 times.
