Walchand College of Engineering

Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli (WCES) is situated midway between the cities of Sangli and Miraj, at Vishrambag, Sangli, India. The WCE campus is located on nearly 102.50 acres (415,000 m²) of land on the southern side of the Sangli – Miraj road.
There are currently 390 students studying there at an undergraduate level, and 106 students at a postgraduate level.
Previously it was affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur, but it is now an autonomous college. The college is named after Walchand Hirachand, an industrialist.

In 1947, the college made a modest beginning, with only a Civil Engineering department offering an undergraduate course (B.E. Civil) with an intake capacity of 60. Subsequently, undergraduate courses in Electrical and Mechanical engineering - B.E.(Elec) and B.E.(Mech) - with an intake capacity of 60 each were introduced, in the years 1950 and 1951 respectively.
Postgraduate courses in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and a diploma course in Industrial Electronics were introduced in 1971. In 1986, undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Electronics Engineering and an undergraduate course in Computer Science and Engineering were introduced, and a postgraduate course in Computer Science and Engineering was introduced in 1997.
In 2001, the college added a B.E. course in Information Technology with an intake of 60 students, and an additional intake of 30 students for the Computer Science and Engineering course.
Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Geology have also been established.
Placement record of the college is very encouraging with about 340 students placed in prestigious organisations during 2005-06.
