[edit] Athletics at Wakefield
Wakefield's Athletics Department has a great presence in the school. The Men's Varsity Basketball team has won the state 4A title twice (2004, 2006), and the Varsity Football team had a prolific season in 2005, remaining undefeated until they reached the state semifinals. [citation needed]
[edit] The Marching Band Program
The Wakefield High School marching band has had great success in the past. This year's show theme is "I Believe..." It's about the many things we may or may not believe in, such as unicorns, dragons, ghosts, Santa, Mermaids, leprachuans, and your imagination itself. The band traveled to the Bands of America competition in Maryland this year to compete against over 20 of the best bands in the region. They performed very well, achieving a Division 1 rating and a 7th place overall finish. They received first place in seven out of eight categories at a previous competition in Virginia, and finished 2nd overall, winning their class, at a competition in Cary in early November.
