"Waiting on the World to Change" is the first single released from John Mayer's 2006 studio album, Continuum. It has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
A limited EP edition of "Waiting on the World to Change" was released featuring the album version of the song. The limited edition is also due to feature a bonus acoustic version of the song which will feature Ben Harper and also the studio recording of "Good Love Is on the Way", of which a live version was released on the album Try! by the John Mayer Trio. This edition is tentatively only available through Best Buy and only upon purchase of the Continuum album.
These extra versions are also being made available along with other versions of Continuum and Try! songs on Mayer's forthcoming EP entitled The Village Sessions, due for release on December 12, 2006.

The music video for the song was directed by Philip Andelman and features Mayer walking along the Hudson River while comissioned graffiti artists Futura, Tats Cru, and Daze graffiti messages on New York billboards displaying messages relating to the song's content.

The song was played in the last scene of the opening episode of the 2006 season of CSI:Crime Scene Investigation along with "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room", another song from Continuum. The ending of "Slow Dancing" is featured at the beginning of the next episode (as the storyline is a two-part sequence).

As the first single from Continuum, "Waiting on the World to Change" has been used in a vast majority of the album's promotional shoots, such as through Sessions@AOL and various television and live appearances.
Mayer performed the song in Australia on Seven Network's Sunrise, Network Ten's Rove Live, and included the song in his setlist when performing for Live at the Chapel[1].

The song has stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 21 weeks, and has peaked at #20, becoming Mayer's fourth single to peak on the Top 20.
To date, the single has sold 592,531 in digital downloads. This means it has been certified Gold by the RIAA [1].
The song peaked at #17 on the Australian ARIA Digital Singles Chart. It also peaked at #36 on the New Zealand Top 40 Singles Chart.
