After a slow start the Rangers managed to get the team working well together and strung together enough wins to not only secure themselves a playoff position but to finish third. This was despite Matt Rua leaving halfway through the season for the Central Comets. Fullback Cliff Beverley has been a standout. The Rangers lost a close play-off match down in Christchurch 26-20 and then went down to the Tamaki Leopards 25-24 in extra time the following weekend to be elimiminated from the play-offs.
