The Waianiwaniwa River is a river in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand.

The source is in the foothills of the Southern Alps and it is a tributary of the Selwyn River. A contentious scheme to dam the river is currently mooted but it is opposed by the Malvern Hills Protection Society.
