Wadel Abdelkader Kamougué

Wadel Abdelkader Kamougué (born May 20, 1939) is a Chadian army officer and politician. He is a southerner from Logone Oriental. As a junior officer he was one of the key military leaders of the coup d'etat which overthrew and killed Chadian President François Tombalbaye on April 15, 1975.

Kamougué has held senior positions in the Chadian government and legislature. He was Foreign Minister between 1975 and 1979, and became Vice-President in the Government of National Unity (GUNT) when Goukouni Oueddei became President on November 10, 1979, until the GUNT was overthrown by supporters of Hissène Habré on June 7, 1982.

When he ran for president he was defeated in the second round of elections on July 11, 1996 with only 30.9% of the vote compared to Idriss Déby's 69.1%.

In 2005 he was the leader of the Union for Renewal and Democracy party and President of the National Assembly (legislature).
