Wade Hurt

G. Wade Hurt is a national authority on hydric soils and was previously state soil scientist of Florida. Currently working for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) of the USDA, he is housed in the Soil and Water Science Department of the University of Florida in Gainesville. He is the NRCS National Leader for Hydric Soils; his most well known contribution to soil science is the publication of Field Indicators of Hydric Soils [1] which he refers to as "the bible." This document is a key resource for delineating wetlands. He teaches hydric soils classes for soil science graduate students as well as environmental professionals so they can apply theoretical, morphologic, and regulatory information for delineating wetlands, siting septic tanks and finding seasonal high water lines.

Wade received his bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University.
