From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William Anthony "Tony" Boyle (1901 - May 31, 1985) was the president of the United Mine Workers union from 1963 to 1972, succeeding John L. Lewis. In March 1971, he was indicted for misuse of union funds and illegal campaign contributions relating to the 1969 UMW presidential election, in which he defeated Joseph Yablonski. In 1974, he was convicted of ordering the murder of Yablonski and Yablonski's family. Boyle was sentenced to life in prison and died in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania at age 83.

The murders were portrayed in a 1986 HBO television movie, Act of Vengeance, in which Charles Bronson portrayed Yablonski and Wilford Brimley played Boyle.
