Vysshaya Liga

The Vysshaya Liga is the lower division of the Russian Pro Hockey League, a professional ice hockey league in Russia.
Two teams from the Vysshaya Liga, decided through a tournament of the top 8 finishers, are promoted and the bottom two teams from the Superleague are relegated at the end of every season.
The Vysshaya Liga is divided into separate East and West leagues. In the 2005-06 season, there were 15 West teams and 13 East teams. Teams play against each other four times in the course of a season. Two teams from Kazakhstan participated in the East league, but are not allowed to play in the playoffs.
