VTOC
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the z/OS architecture from IBM, VTOC refers to the Volume Table Of Contents. A way of cataloging the data sets that reside on a particular volume, it can reside anywhere on the volume it catalogs and lists both the names of the data sets on the volume as well as information such as size, location, and permissions. Additionally, it contains an entry for every block of contiguous free space on the volume. The first record on the first track of the first cylinder of any volume of DASD must contain a pointer to the location of the VTOC.
