Wikipedia talk:Votes for deletion/Request-A-Song.com

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello, this is Steve Gentry (docarcnold), original author of the entry for Request-A-Song.com. I would have to say I strongly disagree with the deletion of the article, as I am a journalist at a college newspaper and a long-time follower of Request-A-Song (RAS). I figured it was time to set the record straight about them for historical purposes, as I would argue they have had a large historical impact on the indie internet music scene, and have nearly created a new musical genre single-handedly, which I call "Webmusic" (similar to Webcomics, but with music of course -- a unique form of music could not have happened without the Web). That doesn't, of course, mean their web site is currently high on the Alexa ranks now, but it once was in its heyday when it was active and most influential. I believe they are of historical musical importance and have treated them as such. Also, they have appeared in major music media -- Billboard.com, also in non-music media such as USA Today and on BBC Radio 2. Yes, I was rather thorough in my links to the site from other pages, but I argue that it is simply putting the site in its proper context amongst Wikipedia's other articles. Do some more research and you'll find out the importance of the site (RAS). Just becase a site isn't currently #1 in rankings or a band hasn't had a #1 Billboard hit doesn't mean it isn't important. Thanks for your consideration. --Steve
