[edit] General of the Air Force

theres no such rank. air force only goes up to 4 stars. delete this now.

  • Keep: It is listed by the Department of Defense and Department of the Air Force as an actual rank. General of the Army/General of the Air Force Henry "Hap" Arnold was the only holder of the rank, after the Air Force became seperate from the Army in 1947; in fact, his uniform and personal 5-star flag are on display in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. Like the ranks of Fleet Admiral and General of the Army, it is a wartime rank. Since there has been no declared war in which it has been necessary to promote someone to General of the Air Force, there haven't been any Generals of the Air Force. In the same line of thinking, there haven't been any Fleet Admirals or Generals of the Army since World War II, but the ranks still exist. The Air Foce has just been around during the time when the rank fell into disuse, and there hasn't been the opportunity or necessity to promote to it.
  • Keep: maybe it isn't currently a rank but they found someone who had it and explained the situation
  • Keep: it is like General of the Army: no one has it but it is a real rank. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 02:59, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
    • Make that a speedy keep, since I think it is also vandalism. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 03:15, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
  • KEEP: Bad faith nomination. I suspect vandalism. -Husnock 03:04, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
  • Speedy Keep it is real. --Rogerd 03:17, August 4, 2005 (UTC)
  • Speedy keep, no merit to nomination. The article clearly detailed the rank's existence. Gazpacho 03:20, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
  • Keep There aren't any commodores in the US Navy anymore either, but it's still worth explaining what rank is.
  • Keep. This official DoD site lists the rank with its insignia. — Franey 08:07, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
  • Speedy Keep. Obvious evidence listed above suggests that this is a real rank -- from the site listed by Franey, the only branch without a five-star general is the Marine Corps. 134.131.125.49 18:04, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
