Volvic is a natural mineral water. Its source lies in the Parc Régional des Volcans d'Auvergne, just to the north of the Puy de Dôme, a dome-shaped mountain of the Massif Central in France. The water's distinctive mineral content comes from this source in the vicinity of a volcano which last erupted in 5760 BC; geologically speaking, very recently.
The first of the springs of the commune of Volvic to be harnessed was tapped in 1922, in the valley of the Goulet and the first bottles of Volvic appeared on the market in 1938. Today, Volvic waters are internationally known. Two bottling plants maintain production and are the principal employers of the commune.
Volvic produces over 1 billion bottles of water annually. Over 50% of the production of Volvic water is shipped to more than 60 countries throughout the world.
In 1993, the Volvic Company was bought by the Danone Group.
Volvic claim to be highly aware of the environment and have led the way in new environmentally friendly innovations. Since 1997, Volvic have been using PETE to make their bottles, a recyclable material.
Volvic also produce a range of fruit extract drinks in Europe named Volvic Touch of Fruit in 4 flavors (Lemon & Lime, Mango, Strawberry, and more recently, Tropical) and in 2005 they introduced them in North America under the brand Volvic natural Lemon and Volvic natural Orange.
