Volunteer, which is often abbreviated Vol., is a term used by a number of Irish paramilitary organisations to describe their members.[1] Óglach is the Irish version of the title and the title commonly used by Republican military organisations, such as the Irish Republican Army or the Irish National Liberation Army as the general description for their members, as all members voluntarily joined the movement. Its original usage derived from the members of the Irish Volunteers in the early twentieth century. The IRA officially describes itself as Óglaigh na hÉireann.
