Volsk

Volsk (Russian: Вольск) is a town in Saratov Oblast, Russia, located on the shores of the Volga River where its connects with the Bolshoy Irgiz. Population: 71,124 (2002 Census); 65,500 (1991 est.).
It was founded in 1690 as Malykovka sloboda, received town status and renamed Volgsk in 1780. In the 19th century the name gradually changed to Volsk.
After the Russian Revolution of 1917, Volsk became a major center of cement production.
