[edit] Format

An episode of Red Shift usually begins with a conversation between VoLiTioN and liquid about game-related stuff that's happened to the two of then recently. Usually, VoLiTioN will ask liquid about how he's doing in a Tekken 5 tournament he may have joined during the last week. But the conversation can also go into a recap of of things mentioned on a past episode.

The show then goes into the news of the week. The hosts read news items that occured in the last week, often with commentary afterwards.

After the news, questions and comments from listeners are read and answered by the hosts. Finally, VoLiTioN and liquid will go over what they've been playing in the last week. Usually, VoLiTioN, being a World of Warcraft player will share a story related to his experiences in the game.

The show ends, and often the listeners are treated to bloopers at the end of the show.

[edit] History

Red Shift first started as a radio show on Brooklyn College Radio, airing Fridays from 3-4 PM. While there were similarities between the two versions, there were some exceptions:

  • Instead of bloopers at the of the show, the show would end with a song from a random video game soundtrack.
  • The show was also joined by "Cal", a friend of VoLiTioN and liquid who always had a random nickname mentioned at the beginning of the show (Examples include "'That Guy' Cal" or "'Airport' Cal")
  • While the show was on Brooklyn College Radio, Red Shift was devoid of profanity, in observance of the rules of the radio station.

[edit] Production

Every episode of Red Shift is recorded in VoLiTioN's living room. With an Alesis Multimix 8 mixer and 2 Behringer C1 microphones. Editing is done in Audacity, and is compressed to 64 kbit/s in MP3 format.

Aside from the news, the show is done spantaneously. So the running time for an episode will vary. The longest show so far ran for 1:35:04.
