Its population of 147,000 (2004 estimate) includes ethnic non-Albanians, especially Greeks.[1] The district has a land area of 1,609 km². It is in the south-west of the country, and its capital is Vlorë. Other places in this district include Himarë, Dhërmi, Cold Water, Palase, Kocul, and Selenicë.
