[edit] Voice overs
Hi, thanks for your edits. Unfortunately an article Voice-over already exists, so I have moved your text to it's talk page Talk:Voice-over. You might want to incorporate some of your ideas into the current article. Thanks, and feel free to ask any questions Arniep 22:00, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, I see you added your info to Voice over, it looks fine. When you write a comment type four tildes ~ ~ ~ ~ (without the spaces) after your comment which will record your name and the time and date. Regards Arniep 21:22, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Marie Collier
This article needs some more information. It's a candidate for speedy deletion as is. I put a post on the talk page objecting to deletion, presuming that more information will be forthcoming. I suggest that you add something quickly or it will be gone. --Elliskev 02:50, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject Opera
Hi, I've noticed you've been editing a lot of opera-related articles lately and I would like to bring this page to your attention: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Opera. If you have any quesions or comments about these guidelines or about our opera-related articles in general, the accompanying talk page is a suitable forum. Thanks, -- Viajero | Talk 22:17, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Opera Houses
Hi, I only went through the articles that were in the nonexistant Category:Opera Houses (ie. with a capital H, and opera house isn't a proper noun), and put them into more specific categories when needed.
Furthermore, if an article is already in a category such as Category:Opera houses in the United States you should not put it into Category:Opera houses, since the former category is already a subcategory of the latter. Category:Opera houses should only contain opera houses from the countries that don't have a country-specific subcategory. This is for the same reason you put people into subcategories, instead of putting everyone into Category:People, it would just get impossible to find anything useful from the category in question. For example, Giuseppe Verdi doesn't have to be in Category:Italian people or Category:Composers since he's already in Category:Italian composers.
And I realize you'd want to have an alphabetical list of all opera houses in the world, but that's never a purpose of a category (for the reason that it's easier to add and remove things from simple lists, and lists can contain entries about opera houses that don't have their own article yet). You could start a new list called List of opera houses in alphabetical order and put them there. - Bobet 11:29, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Metropolitan Opera
Hi, Vivaverdi! You did a nice job on the subheadings for the Metropolitan Opera article. I think that was exactly what was needed to give some more organization to that page. Cheers, LiniShu 02:39, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ellie Caulkins Opera House
Hey! Great info on Ellie Caulkins Opera House, but there isn't any citation of sources. It seems like you probably have them, so if you can do that it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks 06:13, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks..I think it should be fine now. Also, I added a link to your article in the landmarks section of the Denver, Colorado page. Thanks again. Vertigo700 17:23, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Grand Theatre Leeds
Thanks, but I didn't create the article, only expanded it - more work is still required. This was preparatory to beefing up the Opera North article very considerably, perhaps next week. --GuillaumeTell 00:59, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of operas
I noticed you're adding a bunch of Mozart operas to the abovementioned page, but by definition "The following is a list of operas with entries in Wikipedia". If there's a red link, that means either you put in the wrong name, or the opera does not have an entry on Wikipedia, and thus shouldn't be on the list. Also, most titles are under their English names (with redirects from alternates), so these don't need to be added. Just so ya know. Makemi 21:40, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Atlantic Film Festival
Hi there, the Atlantic Film Festival takes place in Halifax, Nova Scotia. [1] I'll get around to making a stub for it soon. Ouuplas 16:37, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Apostrophes
Singular possessive nouns that end in s use an apostrophe s, just like every other word. You only use s apostrophe for plural possessive nouns that end in s. Googling for "singular possessive nouns" shows these two as the first results, supporting my edit. [2] [3]
Exactly right. For singular nouns you add 's, for plural nouns you add s'. So for Rhys-Meyers it would be Rhys-Meyers's. How many Rhys-Meyers are there? Only one. If you were to talk about the entire family of Rhys-Meyers then it would be plural, as in the Rhys-Meyers' family home. 65.13.43.98 07:51, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] D.H.'s ashes
I notice that you just added a nice chunk to the Taos history section - if not the whole thing. It is something that I've been meaning to do too. The issue of Lawrance's ashes is a sticky wicket, but in any case they are not buried there. I'm just mentioning this here so that you'll have some warning before the whole sordid story pops up there. Oh yes, no mention of the Santa Fe Opera? Carptrash 07:53, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry -a dear friend of mine once said that I don't know the defference between "subtle" and "obscure," and I have come to agree with her. I was noting the lack of the SF Opera on your user page, not on the Taos article. I'll check out the DH Lawrence article before going on and on any more. Carptrash 16:45, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright violation
Hi,
I had to remove most of your article on San Sebastian International Film Festival, as it had apparently been copied verbatim (from here), with no indication that appropriate copying permission had been granted.
Please don't put copyright material on Wikipedia without getting the appropriate permission first (note that due to the nature of Wikipedia, having them simply say (e.g.) "You can use it on the website but nowhere else" would not be sufficient).
Fourohfour 18:53, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
ITS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE PRESS PAGE...... DON'T YOU THINK THEY WANT IT REPRODUCED??????? Vivaverdi 18:58, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps they do; perhaps they don't. Bearing in mind the nature of Wikipedia, we can't assume that.
- Press releases have the additional problem that they are inherently POV (i.e. not neutral).
- By the way, please don't type in all caps to get my attention; it comes across as shouting, and I'm quite capable of reading what you have to say without it. Fourohfour 19:02, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Teatro Apollo
I mainly work on it.wiki. Sometimes I make some minor change here on en.wiki, like this one, but have no time to make a more careful work. Sorry! --Al pereira 19:46, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mariinsky
Hello, I'm a bit tired of answering your questions, but here's what I found. Most Russian sources, including the Verdi article in the Krugosvet encyclopaedia say that La forza "was created for the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg". Another Russian website evades to name the opera house where it premiered: "The opera was commissioned to Verdi by the Direction of Imperial Theatres and premiered in St Pete on Oct. 29 (Nov. 10) thanks to efforts of the Italian performers". This circumstantial account of the opera doesn't mention the Mariinka as well. Furthermore, the article in The Times, as quoted here, says explicitly: "Though premiered in St Petersburg, Forza was not, as a programme note suggested, unveiled at the Maryinsky Theatre". Based on this, I conclude that La forza premiered in the Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre. As we Russians don't see any substantial difference between the Bolshoy Kamenny and the Mariinka which succeeded it, I believe the current phrasing in the article on the Mariinka is just fine.
As for the theatre being renamed in 1920, this data is quite official. I don't think that the Mariinka - like other major theatres - functioned during two years following the Revolution, especially as Lenin suggested to Lunacharsky to "put the theatre into a coffin". So I believe that the theatre's name was changed after it resumed its work in 1920. Cheers, Ghirla -трёп- 14:18, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, thanks for making the effort. As I suggested before, your re-write is excellent, but in the interests of accuracy, it is good to have authentication.

[edit] Info please
Your sig suggest you know the answer to this -- when Kiri te Kanawa made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1974 as Desdemona, was the opera called Othello or Otello? Cheers. Moriori 20:38, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- Verdi's opera, based on the Shakespeare play, is caslled, in Italian, OTELLO. If you don't know it, it's the same story - except for some differences in the role of Iago - and it drops the first act, opening with a wonderful storm upon Otello's arrival in port. Hope this helps. Vivaverdi 22:30, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- Sure I know it's the same story. I am trying to establish what name was used for the opera when Kiri debuted at Metro Opera in 1974. Was it Otello, or Othello? I edited her article to change Othello (the play) to Otello (the opera), but you reverted it back to Othello. Moriori 23:52, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
-
- Wasn't me who reverted OTELLO back to OTHELLO unless it was part of the re-write I did on Kiri this afternoon. I'll check it again.
The opera is defintely OTELLO. Vivaverdi 23:55, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Canadian Film Institute
Yep, I know It's a FILM INSTITUTE organization. I'm cleaning stubs out of the film-stub category, and I want to make a case to the folks at WikiProject Films that there's no place for those orgs to go. If I stick enough of 'em in filming-stub someone is bound to take notice, and meanwhile I'll propose some stubs over at WP:STUBS. So thanks for the news flash, and I apologize if my methods seem heavy-handed. Cheers, Her Pegship 03:17, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Email
Your emil is down again so I can't get through.
Re: 60 list. I saved the wrong version by mistake hence Sofia and Mannheim for lost. Should be OK now.
Re Teatro Massimo, I used that title rather than TMVE because the website gives the shorter version (for the company), the Wikipedia article uses the shorter title, and lastly Wikipedia rules favour short titles e.g. La Scala rather than Teatro alla Scala.
Kleinzach 18:21, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
Again email problems - The new 60 opera companies list is now published! Kleinzach 11:11, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Opera Project front page
The Opera Project main page is equivalent to an article, hence contributions are unsigned. So is it OK if we take out your name? Of course I agree with the point you are making about treating venues and companies separately. Best - Kleinzach 23:05, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- No problem....Vivaverdi 23:09, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- I have had a go at editing it all to make it clearer - using your comments. I hope it's better now. Do have a go at it yourself if you think it can be improved further. Kleinzach 16:47, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Opera festivals
Should I move the Opera Festivals onto a new page? How do you think about the simple title Opera festivals? Should we make it an inclusive list? What do you think. Best Kleinzach 16:50, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- The List of opera festivals is now up. Hope it looks OK, but there is obviously still a lot that needs doing with it. - Kleinzach 21:05, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your question questioned.
I'm not quite sure what you meant by this; do you mean my sources for the opera articles (if so there's now something on my user page) or my personal opera-related background? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick.Moreschi 19:09, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Opera buffa vs Comic opera
Both opera buffa and comic opera suggest (regardless of the accuracy of the statement) that the names mean the same thing (not to mention Opéra comique). Since you have stated that you feel a merge is not required, perhaps you could join us at Talk:Opera buffa and describe what you see as the appropriate distribution of the material that is currently located across multiple pages. Thanks. -Harmil 15:32, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Artscape
Thanks, I've probably already added what I can to the Artscape Theatre Centre page, and I linked to the centre's own website for more information. In South Africa there's also the State Theatre in Pretoria, but it doesn't have a Wikipedia page yet, and the Civic Theatre in Johannesburg. Zaian 21:06, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nationaltheater Mannheim
Thanks alot for the thorough and still easy-to-read article! I stumbled upon it by chance and fixed very minor technicalities, I really can't contribute a lot more, Operas and me have just clashed twice. Thanks anyway and keep on having fun, --InterwikiLinksRule 21:36, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merge of Festival dei Due Mondi and Festival dei due mondi
All you need to do is edit the original article to add any information that isn't there, but is in your new article. That's the "merge" bit.
Once you've done that, we'll need to redirect your new article to point at the original. So that anyone typing "Festival dei due mondi" will be sent to the "Festival dei Due Mondi" article to see the newly merged version. If you aren't sure about how to do this last redirect step, just drop me a note when you've finished editing and copying across any inforomation, and I'll show you how. Thanks. BTW: Don't worry about duping an article. It happens at lot. No big deal. - Motor (talk) 13:46, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Motezuma
This looks good now and Motezuma is obviously the correct name. Incidentally I had never heard of Barga, and when I followed up the link I found a fascinating connection with Scotland. - Kleinzach 12:21, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Barga looks like the real thing but I'll leave it to you. I am sure you will do a terrific job. Apparently Barga have their own tartan. I am thinking of adopting it! - Kleinzach 12:35, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Film festival
Thanks for the kind words, but my edit to this article was reversing the edit right before mine, which was vandalism. If you see an edit sumamry that looks like this: (Reverted edits by VB bof (talk) to last version by DHN-bot)', it is usually an administrator performing a rapid vandalism removal by way of the reversion feature. Any editor can revert an article, but admins have special tools to do it rapidly. Most editors will put reversion, rv, rvv, removed edit of... in their edit summary when reverting vandalism, to help make it clear for others. If you have any question, feel free to leave me a talk message. — xaosflux Talk 01:51, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Straw Poll on "Union Jack"
Hello. I agree with you completely that "Union Jack" should be moved to "Union Flag", and that we should have a straw poll on the matter. I think, though, that you might want to be a little more clear about what you were asking for by formulating a question to vote "yes" or "no" on, and possibly being more clear about the start and finish times for the poll. I considered adding a question myself, but thought that might be a little presumptuous, and decided to just tell you. Cheers. Thesocialistesq 13:20, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Moving pages
Hi! It looks like you're trying to move one or more pages. However, please stop doing that this way - the new name of the page might be good, but Wikipedia has another procedure for moving pages. Look at Help:Renaming (moving) a page: you need to use the move tab, and not cut and paste. Cut and paste moves don't take the edit history with them and thus violate the GDFL copyright terms. Also, in some cases, when the move might be controversial, you might first want to discuss the move on the article's talk page. If a move is not possible because a page with the new name already exists, go to Wikipedia:Requested moves. Thanks! --JoanneB 20:57, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Lensic Theater
Thanks for "fleshing out" the Lensic article I started. That's the first I've heard of the origin of the name. Interesting. I saw Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi there 23 or so years ago, and the Lensic was in pretty bad shape even then. I'll try and get a good inside photograph (if the Lensic management will allow that) the next time I'm there. Cheers! Chyeburashka 21:13, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Natalie Dessay
I didn't write the french Dessay article. I just saw that it existed and was longer than the english article, so I figured it couldn't hurt to translate it. --Hgruner 23:54, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Carl Tanner was Santa Fe Apprentice, it seems
According to an opera source of mine, it seems that he WAS an apprentice in 1992/93. so we'll add him to the list.
Vivaverdi 19:39, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
I checked the Santa Fe Opera programmes for 1992 and 1993 last night and confirmed that Tanner was indeed an Apprentice in those years. I've revised his bio article a bit to reflect the chronology of those years. Vivaverdi 16:21, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "ghastly"?
You wrote:
During Bing's long and triumphant career, Marian Anderson became the first African American to sing at the house on January 7, 1955.
The prepositional phrase containing the date modifies the verb "became," not the infinitive "to sing." Your revision implies that there was a second African American who sang at the Met on January 7, 1955.
There is nothing "ghastly" about correct modifier placement. And it is neither incorrect nor inelegant to interpolate a parenthetical adverbial element between a verb and its completer.
Your insult was both misinformed and rude.
I agree, however, that your placement of the sentence is an improvement. ForDorothy 12:10, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks Vivaverdi
Thanks very much for answering my question on Talk:Real estate. The topic I was looking for was a hard artiocle to find, but I was thinking WP was likely to have something on it. I appreciate your help in pointing me to it. N2e 03:12, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vlaames Opera
I was looking at opera houses in Belguim and saw that you had made additions to one so I thought I might bring something to your attention. Silvio Varviso, the conductor of Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Ghent died November 1, 2006 and there's no article for the opera house. I thought you might to write one. Please, if you are uninterested, let me know on my talk page so I can let someone else know. Thanks! -FateSmiled&DestinyLaughed 19:40, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Callas article
Thanks for all your work and help editing and correcting my entries. I think the article is looking pretty decent! There are some wonderful scholarly articles by Dr. Seletsky which I added, as well as a link to Divina Records, which is dedicated to producing the most accurate, least doctored, most expansive editions of Callas' live recordings. I have a few, and they are unbelievably good. I appreciate all your help and input. Shahrdad 21:01, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] ISBN's
I updated all the ISBN's in Callas' bibliography section. On books that were updated and corrected, such as The Callas Legacy, I cited the latest and most up-to-date edition.
Shahrdad 17:33, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Francis Robinson
Did you find that story about Tebaldi learning Gioconda from Callas' recording? I bought the book from abebooks, but I haven't found that story yet. I know I read it some 20 or more years ago in Robinson's book, and this is the only book of his I know of. What page did you find the story on?
Shahrdad 00:48, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] John Ardoin
Wasn't The Callas Legacy initially published in the late seventies? The article says 1997. Or did you mean that the fourth edition dates from 1997?
John and I used to correspond via email a lot, and then suddenly, I didn't hear anything. Next thing I knew, they announced hid death. He seemed like a very kind man.
