Vitis aestivalis Michx. |
Vitis aestivalis is any of several varieties of grape native to the United States. One of its cultivars, Norton, a cultivar with a substantial V. aestivalis background, is believed to be the oldest American grape variety in commercial production. Other naturally occurring varieties include V. aestivalis Michx., also known as the summer grape, and V. aestivalis var. argentifolia, also known as the silverleaf grape.
It has been claimed that a variety of Vitis aestivalias was cultivated by the Cherokees and used in some of their sacred rituals. .
