Viscount Ranelagh

The titles of Viscount Ranelagh and Baron Jones of Navan were created in the Peerage of England by Charles I on 25 August 1628 to Sir Roger Jones, son of Thomas Jones (1550-1619) Archbishop of Dublin and Lord Chancellor of Ireland. Thomas Jones father was Henry Jones, Esq. of Middleton in Lancashire. Both titles became extinct in 1885 upon the death of the 7th viscount.
The 3rd Viscount was created Earl of Ranelagh in 1677 but he had no male issue and the earldom became extinct upon his death, the viscountcy and the barony remained dormant until claimed by a distant cousin Charles Wilkinson Jones.
