Virtex4
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Virtex-4 is a family of high-end FPGAs manufactured by Xilinx. The family includes three device platforms:
- LX - High-performance logic (Highest number of Logic Cells)
- SX - Ultra-high performance signal processing (DSP)
- FX - Embedded processing and serial connectivity (With 1 or 2 Hard Core PowerPC 405)
[edit] What's New in Virtex-4 FPGAs
Manufactured in 1.2v, 90nm triple-oxide technology, Virtex-4 FPGAs offer twice the performance, twice the density, and less than one-half the power consumption of previous-generation devices.
- More flexible clocking. Up to 80 independent clocks and 20 digital clock managers. Differential global clocking minimizes skew and jitter.
- Enhanced memory. Up to 10 Mbits Block RAM with built-in FIFO control logic.
- 1+ Gbps SelectIO™ technology. New ChipSync™ technology simplifies board design for high-bandwidth memory and other source-synchronous interfaces.
- 500 MHz XtremeDSP™ slice. Flexible multiply-accumulator structure for blazing DSP performance.
- Enhanced support for hardware acceleration. New low-latency link from the embedded PowerPC™ core to custom hardware accelerators.
- Integrated 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet MAC. UNH-verified compliance.
- 622 Mbps–6.5 Gbps RocketIO™ Transceivers. Flexible SERDES with the broadest operating range supports multi-rate applications.
