  • 04-1926-01 11: 1.3 mi from end SR 118 east towards Honaker (Russell County - only if county agrees - probably replaced by 1.4 mi below)
  • 05-1926-01 17, 11-1926-01 10: 1.4 mi west from end SR 118 to 2 mi west of Honaker (Russell County complied 11-1926-01)

  • 02-1930-01 2: 125 in Washington County was dropped by the state legislature when SR 112 (then SR 105) was added! (this swap was after 01-1925-01 2, but probably before 1928)
  • 12-1930-02 3-5: 3.52 mi from near Haysi towards Council (Dickenson County), 1.94 mi from Haysi to Kentucky (Dickenson County) (huh??), 2.61 mi from SR 111 near Rockdell to Hayters Gap (Russell County), 7.00 mi extension of SR 111 south towards Meadowview (Washington County)
  • 06-1931-01 14, 07-1931-01 70: 1.18 mi extension of SR 125 towards Council (Dickenson County)
  • 06-1932-01 8-9, 07-1932-03 13-14: 3.20? mi extension of SR 111 to Dickenson County (Buchanan County), 6.06 mi extension of SR 111 towards Kentucky (Dickenson County), 6.10 mi Cedarville to Rock Spring Church (Washington County)
  • 08-1933-01 15, 10-1933-01 21: 0.80 mi extension of SR 80 (Washington County)
  • 03-1937-01 27 has details of some of what existed or was planned: 11.76 mi Kentucky to SR 59 near Haysi, 5.20 mi Council to Dickenson County, 9.95 mi US 19 to Washington County SR 613

Currently SR 80 spends 9.92 mi in Buchanan County between Russell and Dickenson Counties. Council is about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way from Russell to Dickenson. This adds up to all of Buchanan County.

Buchanan County to Honaker was 6.60 mi; this seems to add up. Honaker to Rosedale was 6.10 mi, all from 1925.

Dickenson County in 1936 was 4.96 mi south from Haysi (seems to add up roughly) and 8.20 mi north from near Haysi (again adds up roughly).

So north of Rosedale, this only leaves about 7 mi south of Haysi to the Buchanan County line and 2-3 mi to Kentucky.

South of Rosedale in Russell County is 6.20 mi; this roughly adds up.

Washington County south of Cedarville is definitely there. North of Cedarville was 15.55 mi; I have 12.8 mi (which may actually be enough if it went differently at Hayters Gap!)

Washington 15.55 in 1936, 14.98 currently

south of US 11: 6.45 in 1936, 6.45 currently

from the south:

  • 1928 5.00 SR 10 at or near Cedarville towards Hayters Gap
  • I think this fits here: 1934 3.78 extend SR 80 from end of maintenance to SR 42

from the north:

  • 1930-31 7.00 Extension of SR 111 south towards Meadowview

unknown:

  • 1933 0.80 Extension of SR 80

16.58 total (is 0.80 to Rock Spring Church??)

  • 1932 6.10 Cedarville to Rock Spring Church

Russell (south of US 19) 6.20 in 1936, 6.23 currently

  • 1928 3.00 SR 11 near Brick Church towards Hayters Gap
  • 1930-31 2.61 SR 111 near Rockdell to Hayters Gap

The total for both counties is 28.20 in 1936, 27.66 currently, and 28.29 by adding up additions. Therefore the 7.00 in 1930-31 probably includes a bit in Russell County, making it 6.41 in Washington. Judging by current distances, the south end of this was between 1/2 mile north of SR 611 (just north of the North Fork Holston River) and SR 689 at Hayters Gap. So SR 42 was planned along SR 611 or SR 689. --NE2 05:58, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
