Viper is a wooden roller coaster located at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, which opened in 1995. Viper features a layout patterned after the classic Coney Island Cyclone and is the only roller coaster ever to be built directly by Six Flags.
[edit] Overview
Although originally part of the Hometown Square area of the park, Viper debuted with a heavy western theme. After the rise of Southwest Territory in 1996, Viper’s entrance was modified to become part of the new western themed area. Throughout the years, Viper's queue line has undergone numerous modifications to accommodate additions such as Raging Bull and the entrance to the adjacent Hurricane Harbor water park. Viper uses three-bench, five-car trains built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company that are equipped with individual lap bars and seatbelts. During Fright Fest, Viper is known as Viper: Snakes on a Train in a spoof of the 2006 movie Snakes on a Plane.
