Vinnette Justine Carroll

Vinette Justine Carroll (March 11, 1922 — November 5, 2002) was an American playwright, and the first African American woman to direct on Broadway, with the 1976 musical Your Arms Too Short to Box with God.
Carroll attended Long Island University (B.A., 1944) and New York University (M.A., 1946). She made her professional debut in 1948. She first appeared on Broadway in 1957. In 1967, she founded the Urban Arts Corps to foster participation of minority groups.
In 1964 she received an Emmy Award for "Beyond the Blues."
