Vinho do Alentejo

Vinho do Alentejo (Alentejo Wines) are wines produced in the Alentejo region of Portugal. They are the preferred wines for the consumers in Portugal as they represent 47% of the quality wine's market quota with only 12% of the national wine production due to its nation-wide good marketing and being ideal for an occasional consumer of wines. Which is also reflected in the exports, as these wines are now being exported even to the far east, namely China, a nation without a wine-drinking tradition.
Located in southern Portugal, Alentejo is ideal for the production of unique, excellent-quality wines. It is planted with vast vineyards extended over the rolling plains under the scorching sun, which shines on the grapes and ripens them for the production of Alentejo Wines. As well as being a DOC, the entire province is entitled to the Vinho Regional designation of Alentejano. Individual DOCs in the region include Borba, Evora, Granja-Amareleja, Moura, Portalegre, Redondo, Reguengos and Vidigueira.
Alentejo produces white wines with an intense, original nose, which are fruity and slightly acidic red wines which have a bouquet of very ripe fruits but are soft and balanced on the palate. Red wines are prominent over whites and are principally produced from the native varietals Aragonez, Trincadeira, Moreto and Castelao Frances. White varietals may include Roupeiro and Perrum.
