Vinţu de Jos

Vinţu de Jos (German: Alwitz, Alwintz, Hungarian: Alvinc) is a commune located in Alba county, Romania. Its current mayor, as of 2006, is Alexandru Danciu (Democratic Party of Romania).
The commune has a population of 5,213 ( according to the 2002 census) and encomprises the villages of Vinţu de Jos, Inuri, Dealu Ferului, Gura Cuţului, Haţegana and Valea Vinţului. The main village has a large train station and houses a shoe factory.
Vinţu de Jos' touristical objectives are the ruins of George Martinuzzi's Renaissance castle and of a former Dominican monastery.
