Viltrumite
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Viltrumite are a fictional antagonistic alien race from the comic book Invincible published by Image Comics. Viltrumites are worthy of notice for their superior strength, speed, and ability to fly. They resemble humans, with seemingly all males sporting a large mustache. The most notable member of this race is Omni-Man, Invincible's father.
[edit] History
The Viltrumites are particularly warlike. According to Omni-Man, the Viltrumites achieved a perfect society by killing all the weak members. Afterwards, the new government decided to become an empire, and extended their influence to other worlds which they deemed suitable, judging them for their technological advancements. This was the task of the "World Conquering Committee." If a world was opposed to a Viltrumite takeover, foot soldiers would cause massive damage and kill thousands. In Nolan's words, they were "unstoppable."
As the conquering continued, their forces became spread too thin to continue the same policy. Thus, they began a system of sending only one soldier at a time, given the task of slowly preparing the world for a Viltrumite takeover. Omni-Man, a.k.a. Nolan was the first selected, and the world he was given was Earth.
Recently, the Viltrumites discovered that Nolan has abandoned his post on Earth, and three soldiers attacked Allen the Alien and demanded he confirm the fact. They then tracked down Nolan on the planet he was at during the "A Different World" arc, and ambushed him. Fortunately, he had anticipated their arrival and requested the assistance of his son, Mark Grayson, a.k.a. Invincible.
The three Viltrumites ambushed Nolan and Invincible, killed many of the citizens, and were defeated by Nolan. However, just when his victory seemed imminent, he was again ambushed, this time by Lucan, who Nolan had attempted to kill in the previous issue.
When Mark came to, Nolan was being carried away by several Viltrumites. One of them, a man with a bionic eye, appeared to be in charge, and he informed Mark that it was now Mark's task to fulfill his dad's task on Earth, giving him a deadline of 100 years. Mark has no intention of doing any such thing. Cecil has suggested that this may be a ploy by the Viltrumites to lull Earth's heroes into a false sense of security while an invasion fleet could come to take over. There has been no further development on this point.
[edit] Trivia
The Viltrumite race bears a resemblance to the Golden Age depiction of DC Comics' Kryptonians.
