From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fictional villains of the Power Rangers universe that appeared in the television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie were aliens serving or allied to Rita Repulsa and/or, later, Lord Zedd, including the warrior Goldar.

Information about the other villains can be found below.

Note: For the purposes of this article, the mini-series Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers is considered to be a part of the third series of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Note also: Villains from the movie, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, while they are included on this page, are not considered part of normal Power Rangers continuity.

[edit] Season One

[edit] Rita Repulsa

Main article: Rita Repulsa

Rita Repulsa was the primary antagonist for the first season, and later returned during the second to marry Lord Zedd.

She was voiced by Barbara Goodson.

[edit] Goldar

Main article: Goldar

Goldar was the main henchman for both Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd. In season one, he sometimes fought alongside Scorpina. In season three and later on, he often partnered with Rito Revolto.

He was voiced by Kerrigan Mahan.

[edit] Squatt

Squatt

Squatt

Squatt was a servant of Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa, the dimwitted sidekick of Baboo. He was played by Minoru Watanabe, who filled his suit in the Japanese footage, and his voice was provided by Michael Sorich. Squatt was blue-skinned hobgoblin with a large horn and looked like a mix between a blueberry and a warthog.

Squatt was easily frightened by his bosses' bad tempers. Along with Baboo, he loved to accompany Goldar and monsters as they attacked the Earth and cheer them on. Squatt later abandoned the moon with Zedd and Rita when they fled from the Machine Empire.

Squatt wasn't seen again until the two villains conquered a planet in the Vica Galaxy in Countdown to Destruction, where he was reduced to sand by Zordon's energy wave.

He was voiced by Michael Sorich.

[edit] Baboo

Baboo

Baboo is the more intelligent of a dimwitted duo consisting of him and Squatt, resembling a cross between a bat and a monkey. He serves as Rita's alchemist and potion maker, creating substances for her to use. Baboo is rarely confident in his mistress' plans. Baboo disappeared during the Power Rangers: Zeo series, when fleeing from the Machine Empire with his masters. Although his partner Squatt would appear in the later attack on the Vica Galaxy in Countdown to Destruction, Baboo was nowhere to be seen, making his fate questionable following the strike of Zordon's energy wave.

Baboo is voiced by Dave Mallow.

[edit] Finster

Finster
Finster

Finster was a henchmen of Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, though mostly the former. He resembled an anthropomorphic white Scottish Terrier. During the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, he was primarily responsible for creating a new monster to battle the Rangers in each episode, as well as producing a regular supply of Putty Patrollers, although this function fell to Lord Zedd after his appearance. Finster did this by sculpting the monsters out of clay and 'cooking' them in a special machine in his workshop.

During the Zeo season, he aided Zedd and Rita in their fight against the Machine Empire with several machines that he built.

Finster was later, presumably, vaporized by Zordon's energy wave in Power Rangers: In Space, though this is not known for sure, since he did not appear to be evil, but only a wise servant. Since Rita and Zedd were spared and left only with the manifestation of their own love, perhaps Finster was spared and turned into a manifestation of his own genius. He was the one responsible for making the suggestion that Alpha 5 be used in "delivering the message of evil" as Rita Repulsa had called it.

Finster is the original "monster maker" of Power Rangers. This role is often filled by other characters of Finster's type, such as Jinxer of Lightspeed Rescue and Mora/Morgana of S.P.D.

Like Lord Zedd, Finster is voiced by Robert Axelrod.

[edit] Scorpina

Scorpina's normal form

Scorpina's normal form

Scorpina was one of Rita Repulsa's most ruthless and dangerous minions, besides Goldar, with whom she occasionally fought alongside. She is the Power Rangers counterpart of Lami from Kyouryuu Sentai ZyuRanger. In the Japanese Sentai version, Lami is married to Griffozer (Goldar), and at the end of the show, they have a baby. During Mighty Morphin, Goldar had shown affection toward Scorpina, so it's possible that the two of them are married (or at least in a romantic relationship) like their Japanese counterparts, though they don't seem to have any children from this relationship thus far.

Very little is known about Scorpina. She fights with a crescent-shaped sword that can be thrown like a boomerang. In human form, she appears as a normal-looking human woman and seldom takes any hits, but when she grows to giant-size, she is a hideous scorpion monster with a long electrocuting tail and gets some kicks and punches executed by the Power Rangers' Megazord; she returned attacks by wrapping her long tail around the Megazord's head and shocking it. One time, Scorpina used her pet silkworm to fight the Power Rangers. Another time, she posed as a human girl named Sabrina to ensnare Adam Park. She was to make an appearance in an unproduced 3 parter, Zordon, I Shrunk The Rangers (the episode would be set after The Wedding).

Scorpina's wereabouts remain unknown, as she did not appear at the episode Countdown to Destruction in Power Rangers in Space. Some believe she was either destroyed or purified by Zordon's energy wave.

Scorpina was the first female villain warrior of the series, a role later filled by Archerina, Divatox, Astronema, Trakeena, Vypra, Nadira, Toxica, Marah and Kapri, Elsa, Morgana and Necrolai.

She was voiced by Wendee Lee. Her Japanese actress was Ami Kawai.

[edit] Lokar

  • First appearance: "Island of Illusion, Part One" (11/2/93)
Lokar

Lokar

Appearing as a floating, ethereal blue head, Lokar changed Mutitus to his more powerful form and assisted in sending the Rangers to the Island of Illusions. After destroying Mutitus, the Rangers attacked Lokar with the Ultrazord, but he managed to escape. Lokar is later summoned again when Goldar goes into battle with his extremely powerful zord, Cyclopsis. Lokar replenishes the zord when it falls to the power ranger's attack. Of course, when the plan does fail, he and Cyclopsis are blasted by the Ultrazord. Lokar is not seen exploding like Cyclopsis, but he was presumably destroyed.

He is based on Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger villain Dai Satan.

[edit] Seasons Two and Three

[edit] Lord Zedd

Main article: Lord Zedd

Lord Zedd was the primary antagonist for the second and third seasons.

He was voiced by Robert Axelrod.

[edit] Rito Revolto

Main article: Rito Revolto

Rito Revolto was the secondary henchman for Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd in the third season, often partnered with Goldar.

He was voiced by the late Bob Papenbrook.

[edit] Master Vile

Master Vile, voiced by Tom Wyner (uncredited), was the father of Rita Repulsa and Rito Revolto. His home planet is called Gamma Vile, which was in the M51 galaxy. He is based on Ninja Sentai Kakuranger antagonist, Daimaoh.

Master Vile arrived on the moon in search of the legendary Zeo Crystal during the third season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He very nearly succeeded, capturing both the Crystal and the Rangers' zords, and even throwing an "End of the World Party" in the Youth Center, before entering battle against the Power Rangers themselves. Vile grew to giant size and survived the finishing attacks of both the Shogun and Ninja Megafalconzords. On his retreat to the moon, he considered the failure nothing but a minor setback and decided to stay.

Vile later sent his old ally Dischordia to battle the Rangers, and she nearly succeeded in taking control of the Rangers' minds. Vile was foiled once again, however, as Dischordia met her end courtesy of the Shogun Ultrazord.

Vile then summoned the Orb of Doom to the Earth, which he used to revert the Rangers to powerless children. He prevented Lord Zedd, Rita, Goldar, and Rito from destroying Angel Grove, revealing that he had more plans for the Earth. He sent a selection of monsters to invade the planet, led by his field general, Professor Longnose. When the invasion was defeated by the Aquitian Rangers, Vile threw a tantrum and fled back to M51, where he said evil always wins.

When the Machine Empire arrived on the moon, Rita called Vile and begged him to let them stay with him. Vile agreed, despite the fact that Rita would be bringing "that husband of hers."

Master Vile appeared in the Power Rangers Zeo comic book, in which the forces of the Machine Empire attacked his planet looking for Lord Zedd (who was in possession of Power Coin energies the Machine Empire was seeking). In the end, Master Vile handed the energies over to the Machine Empire despite the rangers' attempts to stop the them from getting them. The Power Coin energies subplot went unresolved.

Master Vile was last seen on the Cimmerian Planet, attending Dark Specter's conference. He was presumably destroyed by Zordon's energy wave.

Note: Vile was the first villain to receive the "semi-independent villain" position. A role which would later be filled by Louie Kaboom, Prince Gasket, Captain Mutiny, Mandilok, and some of the monsters in SPD.

[edit] Hydro Hog

Hydro Hog

Hydro Hog

Hydro Hog, who appeared in Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers, is the nemesis of the Aquitian Rangers. He was known as the Emperor of the Dark Waters on Aquitar for his evil ways. He was known for having destroyed many planets. His main power is by consuming all the water available before the Aquitian Rangers can get to it, leaving them dehydrated.

The Hydro Hog was too powerful for the Aquitian Rangers to destroy, and he was the only villain capable of withstanding the Shogun Megazord's Fire Saber, actually completely blocking the slash before it hit him. However, he was eventually defeated by the Shogun Megafalconzord. He was the first archvillain to be destroyed in battle, later followed by King Mondo.

Hydro Hog is voiced by Brad Orchard (uncredited).

[edit] Ivan Ooze

Ivan Ooze

Ivan Ooze is a fictional character in the Power Rangers universe, the primary villain in the film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995). He was played by Paul Freeman and is the only Power Rangers villain with no place in the actual continuity.

Ivan Ooze was a tyrant 6000 years ago, until he was imprisoned in a Hyperlock Chamber (pictured) by Zordon and the "Order of Meridian", who presumably were the precursors to the modern Power Rangers. He also has his own batch of Enemy Foot Soldiers that are easily destroyed by the Rangers.

His hyperlock chamber unearthed by an Angel Grove construction crew, Ivan Ooze was released by Lord Zedd after 6,000 years of imprisonment. Demolishing the Command Center and fatally injuring Zordon, Ivan destroyed the Power Rangers' abilities to morph, fight, and call their Zords.

He travelled to the moon, and once there easily deposed of both Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa, trapping them within a snowglobe. Their henchmen Goldar and Mordant swore allegiance to Ivan rather than join Rita and Zedd in captivity. Ivan then began brainwashing the citizens of Angel Grove into digging up his Ecto-Morphicons, large insect-like machines similar to the Rangers' Zords.

After the Rangers gained the Great Power, they returned to Angel Grove and battled Ivan's machines with their new Ninja Zords. Using these Zords, they were able to destroy one of the Morphicons, Scorpitron. Ivan combined with the other Morphicon, Hornitor, and took on the Rangers himself. The battle progressed into outer space, and though Ivan consistently had the upper hand, he was destroyed when the Ninja Megafalconzord kneed him in the groin, which sent him flying into the path of Ryan's Comet, which happened to be passing. He is the final boss in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie based games as well as The Fighting Edition. In fact, Ivan is a playable character in the VS Mode in Fighting Edition, by holding Y and X while pressing start.

[edit] Mordant

Mordant

Mordant

Mordant was a pig-like henchman in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. Together with Goldar, he defected from Lord Zedd to join Ivan Ooze, when Ivan imprisoned Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa in a snowglobe. In an original draft of the script, he was revealed to be Goldar's second cousin, three times removed, on his mother's side, visiting for the summer, but this was written out for the final draft, and many audience members were confused as to Mordant's origins (information from Writer's Guide to the PR Universe). Mordant never appeared in the series since the movie wasn't part of the continuity, although he would go on to appear in Marvel Comics' adaption of the movie and series. Mordant is in fact referred to being Goldar's cousin visiting for the summer in a coloring book based on the movie, but whether or not this is canon is debatable.

Mordant is played by Jean Paul Bell.
