From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Villa Morra is a barrio (neighbourhood) of Asunción, the capital of Paraguay. It has a population of 4114 people. The name "Villa Morra" comes from the family name of one of the first owners of the Asunción Tramways company, Mr. Franciso Morra.

It is a neighbourhood occupied mostly by wealthy people. The Mariscal López Avenue, one of the main arteries of Asunción, runs through Villa Morra facilitating transportation which is one of the reasons as to why this barrio is considered by many as the "new downtown" area of Asunción. This is because Villa Morra has seen a huge development in the last few years with the opening of new shoppings and malls, restaurants, hotels, nightclubs and even banks and financial firms. It is also important to note that the economically dominant sector of the population are moving to this neighbourhood.

Some important sites in this barrio include the Villa Morra and Mariscal López shopping malls, and the Villa Morra Suites Hotel (built based on the early 20th century European architecture).
