Vila do Maio, also Porto Inglés or Porto Inglêz (Portuguese for "English port" in which was founded, Capeverdean Crioulo: Bila du Maiu) is a town in the southwestern part of the island of Maio in southeastern Cape Verde and also serves its island capital. The town is the 14th largest city in Cape Verde after Pico. Vila do Maio is linked with the island's highway serving to the eastern and the northern portions of the island especially to Pedro Vaz and Morrinho. Vila do Maio has a nice port serving ferry routes only to the island of Santiago with Praia. The terrain around Maio are rarely made up of farmlands and forests cover the northern part, the dry island desert dominates the rest of the area around Maio. A small saline marsh is situated to the northwest.
The national park of Pico d'Antônia which is Pico's fame is bounded to the west along its forests and its slopey valley. More mountains dominate the northeast and the central part are farmlands. The mountains including the view of Monte Batalha dominates the northeast.
The population has doubled between 1990 and 2005 in which some inhabitants arrive from other parts of the island, several people have moved to other islands. The GDP for the town is between low and middle range. a part of the population live in poverty and living standards are between low and moderate.
