Viking II (rocket)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Viking II was an American rocket. On May 29, 1954, it reached a height of 253 km, and took the first pictures of the Earth from near orbit. It also performed suborbital tests of the Vanguard satellite, which were called Vanguard TV 0 and TV 1. (Vanguard TV 2 launched on a 1 stage Vanguard rocket)

It is not to be confused with Viking 2, the Mars lander of 1976.
