Vigeland, Norway
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Old farm in Valle parish, Lindesnes commune, Vest-Agder county. The farm is first mentioned in 1390 ("Vikinggaland"), but it is probably much older. The first element is the genitive case of the Norse personal name Víkingi - and the meaning is 'the land/estate owned by (the man) Víkingi'. (The first element could also be the genitive plural case of the Norse word víkingr 'viking' - but the meaning of such a name would be a bit obscure: 'the land/farm of the vikings'?)
The family of the artist Gustav Vigeland originally came from this farm.
