Vietnamese French
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vietnamese French can refer to:
- Tây Bồi, a French-based pidgin formerly spoken in Vietnam
- Vietnamese French (dialect), a French dialect spoken in Vietnam
- Vietnamese French, Residents of Vietnamese origin, who have their residence in France. France contains a mixture of those who migrated there before 1975 (French Colonism) and those after 1975 (Boat people), consisting of ethnic Vietnamese, ethnic Chinese-Vietnamese and mixed race Eurasian French-Vietnamese.
Children of Vietnamese people in France usually grow up speaking French, unable to communicate in Vietnamese and they usually think French colonization was a good thing for Vietnam. The population of Vietnamese French is now high and visible in most major cities (around 500,000) and current immigration rates are still high. Instruction of the French language in Vietnam, however, has diminished significantly. English is now the major secondary language taught in schools.
