Vienna Cup
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Vienna Cup was a football competition held in Vienna, Austria. It was one of the first European Championship Cups having been played for in 1914. It was apparently only played for once due to the outbreak of World War I, and won by Northern Ireland team Glentoran F.C. who were practically unknown to the outside world. They were, as a result, the first ever team in the United Kingdom to win a European Cup. Glentoran still to this very day still hold the record as the only Northern Irish club to have won a European Cup. Other teams that competed in the competition included Burnley, Celtic and an Austria Select XI.
