[edit] History

Just added history. Most of the information was extracted from 'The V.I.S. Story 1955-1985' in the chapter by Colin Thornley.

This historical background on one of the most mundane topics ever known to man is a great aid to us all. All hail the accomplished historian who enscribed these wise words for all of posterity.

[edit] "Slutz Parties"

I have removed the section added by User:62.116.93.241 about "Slutz Parties"[1] since it appears to be unverifiable and/or vanity. Please do not re-insert this content unless you can provide reliable sources for it. Thanks, AJR | Talk 19:36, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Clean up

This article falls far below Wikipedia standards. In places it is nonsense. The trivia section is not trivia in respect to relevant material which could not be placed in the body but a number of unrelated and often incomprehensible statements.

I removed the part saying it was the best school in Austria as it was not verified. I removed the assertion that this school teaches "IB". I'm certain they have an IB Diploma programme but that needs clarifying.

  • VIS was the first school in the world to offer Art as both an elective and class, resulting in the famous 1994 "Art or Tart" Controversy.

Schools around the world have offered electives in Art as well as running compulsory classes. It is common in large state/public schools and has been for generations.

  • The VIS Golf Team is the only VIS team to win the National Schools' Championships. This doesn't say anything and doesn't make sense.
  • The school lies in the 22nd district of Vienna, only two train stops away from the United Nations, and the Vienna International Centre? It is also X number of stations from the city centre. It is adjacent to the 21st district. Meaningless.
  • Unlike most international schools, a large proportion of VIS's students remain in the school for the whole period of their education as their parents are permanent residents of Vienna. Needs verifying and referencing.
  • The school features a broadcasting system called the VISis What sort of Braodcasting? Sound, radio??
