As I recall (I think it was in Unfinished Tales), Tolkien named Vidugavia after a historical Germanic ruler, so this should probably be moved at some point to Vidugavia (Middle-earth) to make room for an article about him. DopefishJustin 23:07, Apr 6, 2004 (UTC)

How do we know that Vidugavia was not, in fact, King of Rhovanion?

See [1] - the Encyclopedia of Arda is usually a very reliable source. I suspect it's a question of whether Rhovanion truly counted as a Kingdom. It wasn't a very organized region, as far as I can tell, and he may have simple been a powerful ruler in the area, not a king recognized over all. (I'll have to look this up. See the Kingdom of Rhovanion and Rhovanion articles. Vidugavia's kingdom was one of the many princedoms of the region, and his was actually named Rhovanion. With Gondorian aid his realm grew into the most powerful princedom of Rhovanion, and then declared himself king. Probably the other realms, including Dale, Esgaroth, the woodsmen of Mirkwood, the forefathers of the Éothéod, and the later Beornings did not exactly agree. In any case it was later a moot point as all princedoms were destroyed by the Wainriders and Balchoth... Anárion 01:34, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
