Victoria Regional Transit System

Victoria Regional Transit System is a transportation organization which services transportation needs of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Established in 1890 as a street railway operator, the system is now bus based.

VRTS has 178 buses on 36 conventional routes and 17 community bus routes:

VRTS operates HandyDART 40 vans with door-to-door service for people who cannot ride the conventional buses. Booking is required and restrictions on whom can use the system apply.

BC Transit does not operate commuter rail service on Vancouver Island, but it is operated by VIA Rail.

Ferry connections are made with BC Ferries, an operator also under BC Transit and other operators.

Below are the fare prices in Canadian Dollars:

Adult/College $2.00 - 1 Zone, $ 2.75 - 2 Zones
Senior/Youth $1.25 - 1 Zone, $ 2.00 - 2 Zones

Child under age six: no charge.

Day pass are available for $6.00 for adults and college students. Youth and seniors are $4.00.

Monthly passes are:

  • Adult $65.00
  • College $ 57.00
  • Senior/Youth $37.00

Students at the University of Victoria and at Camosun College are part of the U-PASS program. All students pay for subsidized bus passes as part of their fees ($61.00 for four months).

The VRTS board is made up of 7 members appointed under the BC Transit Act. The members are mayors and councillors of the communities of Greater Victoria:
