- See also Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park for the Zambia national park sometimes known as Victoria Falls National Park.
Open to visitors throughout the year, the Victoria Falls National Park protects the south bank of the Zambezi river, just below the famous Victoria falls. It is located in western Zimbabwe and covers 23.40 square kilometres. It lies next to the bigger Zambezi National Park.
The greatest spectacle in the area is the famous Victoria Falls, 1,700 m wide and 108 m high. In the wet season, the flow rate reaches 9,100 cubic metres per second. The magnificence of the falls can be imagined from the fact that at times the spray rises to a height of 400 m and is visible even 70 km away. Visitors are encouraged to visit during August to December, which is the best time to observe the falls.
Accommodation is provided on camping sites in the Zambezi National Park. Further, there are hotels at the Victoria Falls Village. Visitors have the chance to view animals like the elephant, buffalo, white rhino, antelopes, hippo and the Common Eland during drives and walking safaris. Moreover, a crocodile ranch offers a view of the dangerous crocodiles. Visitors are required to take precautions against malaria and crocodiles.
