[edit] Character
A wealthy and prominent business tycoon, Victor is arguably the most powerful man in Genoa City. Raised an orphan and determined to be completely independent, he has built an empire out of Newman Enterprises.
Victor originally came to town in 1980 to help Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) run Chancellor Industries. He brought his wife Julia (Meg Bennett) with him, and kept her a recluse in their ranch house while he worked.
Longing for work, Julia took a modeling job with photographer Michael Scott, who was attracted to her. Victor became instantly jealous, and when Julia turned up pregnant, he was convinced that the baby was Michael's. In retaliation, Victor imprisoned Michael in the bomb shelter at the ranch. It was this story that turned Victor into a villain, a character type he has largely stayed true to over the course of two decades.
Julia found Michael and freed him from the bomb shelter. Victor confronted Julia, causing her to fall down the steps of their house, losing the baby in the process. DNA records proved that the baby was Victor's after all. Both Michael and Julia left town in quick succession, with Julia divorcing Victor.
Despite being such a powerful figure in the business world, Victor is largely devoted to his current wife, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), and family. Despite Victor having been married to Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), Cassandra Hall (Nina Arvesen), Hope Adams (Signy Coleman) and Diane Jenkins (then played by Alex Donnelley), he and Nikki always seem to find their way back to each other.
Although he is often at odds with his oldest children, Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Nicholas (Joshua Morrow), who both work at Newman Enterprises, Victor manages to remain close to them. He also has an estranged son with Hope, Victor Jr., who Hope hasn't allowed him to see since he was very young. He has a young daughter, Abby Carlton (Darcy Rose Byrnes), with Ashley. Abby didn't know she was Victor's daughter until she was six years old, and so Abby thinks of Brad Carlton (Don Diamont), Ashley's now ex-husband, as her daddy.
Victor has currently been suffering from and diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy. Most recently however it turned out to be a farce as it was part of Victor's plan to defeat Jack Abbott once again.
