Victor Attah

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Obong Victor Bassey Attah (b. 20 November 1938) has been governor of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria since 29 May 1999. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Since assumption of office as the Governor of the oil rich state, Obong Attah has been at the forefront of the drive for a more equitable system of national resource allocation to reflect the immense contributions his people in Akwa Ibom State and indeed the wider oil-rich South-South geo-political zone of Nigeria have made to the wealth creation process of the Nigerian nation.

As a result he has been widely regarded as the father of the "Resource Control" movement in Nigeria and a champion of minority ethnic rights in the commonwealth of Nigeria. This effort and commitment has been widely recognised with awards by various national and international institutions and bodies.

Before assuming the governorship of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Attah practised as an architect and served as the National President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIS).
