Victor Joseph Mignogna (born August 27 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania) (Italian Name: Vittorio Giuseppe Mignogna) is a prolific voice actor who has done voice work for dozens of anime series, movies, and video games. Mignogna is most well known for his dub role of Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist.

Mignogna also auditioned for the role of Orochimaru on Naruto, but lost the part to his best friend Steven Blum. The producers originally wanted him to play the part, but Viz Media rejected him. Mignogna also tried out for Bleach, but was rejected. However, many fans believe that he will play Hitsugaya, whose original seiyu was Romi Paku (Edward Elric), if given the chance.[1][2]

Mignogna is also one of the most featured voice-over actors on YouTube with over 400 videos featuring him or his songs. Mignogna also appeared on Star Search in 1993, singing a song called "Worth Waiting For".[3]

[edit] Fanbase

Vic Mignogna is a celebrity among fans of English anime dubs; his roles as characters such as Dark Mousy, Gawl, Edward Elric, and the evil Broly from the 3 Dragon Ball Z movies, along with his crazy interaction with his fans, have generated a large fanbase. He is a guest at many anime conventions across the United States and Canada.

He now has an official fanclub, Risembool Rangers (named after Edward Elric's hometown in Fullmetal Alchemist), with members in almost every state (including Puerto Rico) and across the world, including fellow voice actors Caitlin Glass and Scott McNeil.[4] Vic's appreciation for his fans led to the creation of the short film Fullmetal Fantasy.

Vic Mignogna is also a huge fan of the Star Wars and Star Trek series. He hosts his own fan site, http://LightSaberWorld.com

He has stated in several interviews that he is also a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist, and that voicing the part of Edward Elric was probably the most memorable role in his voice acting career. These statements were made at Fullmetal Alchemist panels at anime conventions.

Most recently, Vic has teamed with Steven Blum in making audio clips titled "Real Fans of Genius," which parodies Budweiser's Real Men of Genius radio commercials. These anime-themed clips talk about various stereotypical fans of the anime world, the first two which describe "Mr. Anime Cosplayer Guy" and "Ms. Yaoi Obsessed Fangirl."

[edit] Trivia

  • At Anime Expo 2005, Vic became fairly infamous for saying the line, "Colonel Mustang is dead sexy!...In a miniskirt!" in response to a fan's question regarding the yaoi fandom of Fullmetal Alchemist. [5]
  • At Fan Expo Canada 2006, Vic stated his least favorite role was Broly, due to the immense strain that it put on his voice, and that one time after he had done a session recording Broly he was unable to speak for several days. Furthermore, he claimed after all the movies had finished and he had thought he had finally finished the recording of Broly for good, his publicist then had to call him up to record for the DBZ videogames.
  • He has claimed to be addicted to sour straws.
  • At AnimeNEXT 2005, he let fangirl Kitsune Sakakino handcuff him in front of a panel, asking only if there was a key.
  • At RealmsCon 2006, a fan asked to lick Vic's hand, which he (reluctantly) allowed.[6]
  • At Anime Weekend Atlanta 2006, he was in attendance at the Midnight O'er Tokyo Ball, in a blue sportcoat and matching pants. He also had a fan jump up and yell one of the more well-known lines in Generator Gawl: "I'D RATHER SLEEP IN THE PARK WITH THE GENERATORS!!!"
  • When asked what he would do if he could run amok in Wal-Mart for 24 hours without getting into trouble, Vic responded that he'd "put the FMA movie on all the TVs....then I would eat lots of food!"
