Vic-Fezensac
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vic-Fezensac is a small city located in the departement of Gers; it has about 4 000 inhabitants.
The city is renowed for the bullfights that take place troughout the Pentecoste week-end. On that occasion dozen of thousands of people gather all night long over the week-end in the tiny streets of the city: is is indeed the first big "feria" of the year in the Southwest region. There are less people than in Bayonne or Dax, not talking about Pamplona, but it is a event to be seen if you are in the region at this moment. Small bodegas crowded with people are open until the morning comes, "bandas" (bands of popular Basque ou gascon music) goes on the streets, all that in a quite drunk but peaceful atmosphere.
You can also enjoy (end of July) the salsa festival, quite the same thing (gathering of people in the streets) but without bullfights and with a more laid-back atmosphere. Night markets ("marchés de nuit") happen also in Summer, which may be worth visiting.
