Talk:Victor Avila

[edit] Sourcing and notability
I have been trying to fact-check the article as it stands and have not been having much luck. There clearly was a photographer named Victor Avila, but the relatively few references available online speak of him as a San Diego-based portrait and wedding photographer.[1][2]
He apparently taught at California's Golden Gate School of Professional Photography.[3]
Noting in passing his death, a photography magazine site does call him "noted," but doesn't say anything further.[4]
And that's about all I find. He is not the Victor Avila on IMDB.[5] There is no mention online of a "Kodak Photography Hall of Fame," and he does not appear to be an inductee of the International Photography Hall of Fame.[6]. The only mentions of him in the context of the Professional Photographers of America appear to have been generated by this article, as are all mentions of him the context of his "partner" George Hurrell, Anne Geddes, and Arnold Newman. Eastman Kodak may consider "him one of the top portrait photographers of the 20th century," but if so has never said so in any way that shows up on Google. I even checked e-Bay, and no photographs by him are on sale.[7] No images credited to him are available on Google Images.[8]
In short, pending the posting of any sourced statements in his regard, I will be removing most of the unsourced claims in the article. Robertissimo 14:47, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
