VETËVENDOSJE!
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
VETËVENDOSJE! (Albanian for Self-Determination) is a movement that gathers people that oppose the United Nations occupation of Kosovo. The main aim of the movement is for the Kosovar people to exercise the right of self-determination. VETËVENDOSJE! movement is also committed to social and political changes that will enable the respect of human rights, civil liberties and social justice for each and every person that lives in Kosovo regardless of their ethnicity, religion or culture.
The driving force behind VETËVENDOSJE! is Albin Kurti, the veteran Kosovar activist.
The main activities of VETËVENDOSJE! movement is to write graffiti throughout Kosovo opposing the negotiations for the final status of Kosovo in favour of self-determination. The graffiti in Albanian is: Jo Negociata -- Vetëvendosje! (No negotiation - Selfdetermination! in English). The targets of VETËVENDOSJE! activists also include the vehicles of the UNMIK (United Nations Mission in Kosovo) with UN signs, to which the activists add F at the beginning and D at the end resulting in FUND signs, which in Albanian means The End. VETËVENDOSJE! movement also opposes the decentralisation process which they fear will lead to the division of Kosovo along ethnic lines, separating Kosovo onto Albanian and Serbian parts.
VETËVENDOSJE! has also organised protests in front of the headquarters of the United Nations in New York and in Kosovo during the visits of the heads of state of Serbia.
