Verticordia is a genus of 99 species of evergreen shrubs of the family Myrtaceae. They are primarily found in Western Australia. The name Verticordia means "turns the heart", presumably this is the effect it had on botanist A. P. de Candolle who named the genus.

[edit] Cultivation

Verticordia are known for their feather like flowers. They are generally somewhat difficult to grow in cultivation. Outside of their natural habitat Verticordia have shown consistently good results in the temperate regions of Australia. All species require excellent drainage.

[edit] Habitat

Verticordia require a Mediterranean-type climate of very dry summers and wet winters. Verticordia generally grow in woodlands and sandy heaths.
