Symbols:
A panther is the school mascot and the institution's recreational teams are thus named accordingly. The common symbols that students past and present can all relate to however, are the crumbling brick walls. No surface is unmarred by gaping fissures that are a direct result of the school being built on a clay foundation. According to legend, which has long been widely accepted as fact, the school sinks an inch into the ground a year; nobody actually knows how much VSS displaces itself by "rolling down the hill". At this time, it would be appropriate to point out that the school slogan is "Pride on the Hill".
